Travel journal series: Ghana 2021

This travel journal series is an effort to archive trips taken before this blog was created. Rather than trying to recall them years later, I’m transcribing, word for word, what I wrote by hand in my small travel journal at the time.

Woke up at 6 am thinking about how beautiful and grim Ghana is all at the same time. The ingenuity of the people to survive despite it all is nothing short of amazing. This beautiful house I am building with mom, does it become home for my children or their children or will there be no descendants from me to make it a home? So many reflections on my mind about legacy and inheritance and the land.

Present day reflection

I only journaled once on this three weeks trip to Ghana. Little did I know this trip would be the last time I’d see my beautiful Grandmother in person. We had so many funny, tender moments I wished I had journaled about. She would pass away a few weeks later upon my return home to the US.
